A "Third Week" Update!

We got this message from Kristine about a week ago and wanted to share it with everyone. She has been having a wonderful time,  learned a lot about music, and made a lot of new friends.  She keeps working hard, even though it has been really hot over there.  Kristine told me this morning that besides the first couple of weeks, which were way too hot, she is really enjoying the weather and the AC :)  One thing that she could use prayers on, she got sick last week and she still is not 100%, so we are praying she will feel better soon.  Thank you all so much for your concern and support!!

...

"Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying a lovely summer! I am already three weeks in to my Interlochen summer camp experience! Half way through! I have been having a lot of fun here, making lots of friends, learning about new things, growing as a musician and as a person I believe. My week day normally consists of orchestra rehearsal in the morning, individual practice, Alexander Technique, chamber rehearsal, and then dinner and free time! There are so many concerts and art shows to go to here to support friends, and they are so good! We have had a couple of amazing thunder and lightening storms, and a heat wave here, and now it isn't too hot, although it is very warm. On the 4th... I didn't do anything special, but I did think of everyone back home hoping you were all having a great day!! I have a fairly large cabin, with 16 girls in it, all of them are important to me and when one is gone for the day, we all notice it. I have been having a great time here! I miss you all!!! I wish I could have two summers, one here, and one at home :)
Hope you are all well! Feel free to email me or text me or write me, even though I may not respond right away. Take care everyone!!!!!!!!!"

THANK you for your interest in supporting Kristine in her effort to attend Interlochen Music Arts Camp this summer in Michigan.
She has received generous support from a variety of people...friends, family and acquaintances.
Each and Every donation is greatly appreciated!

We have proceeded in registering Kristine to Interlochen, and have purchased her plane ticket to fly out late June.  She is Very Excited, and a bit nervous!

We did have a benefit yard sale last Friday, and plan to do a final sale this Friday, May 11th from 8 - 5 pm.

We have however, decided to fore go the benefit recital scheduled in June due to a few reasons, including a very busy schedule!  We are sorry to have to make this change, but hope you will understand.  Kristine will be having her Senior Recital in the spring of 2013, we will gladly send you an invitation to that, and would Love for you to be able to attend.

Some donations are still coming in, and All are greatly appreciated.  We will continue to post updates, especially as the journey is under way.  Thanks again for all your support!  Please feel free to email if you have any further questions.

A young lady with a dream...introducing Kristine Rose Vander Poel

Kristine Rose
Key Peninsula, WA
2012
Request for your assistance:

A young lady with a dream…
Kristine is a 16 year old, home schooled student with a dream.  At the age of 6, she was started on the piano, in the footsteps of her older sister and brother, however, she was insistent that she wanted to play the violin instead.  Due to her persistent request, her mother went in search of violin instruction, and found the Peninsula Youth Orchestra.  PYO worked to start beginner students, so at the age of 9, Kristine started playing the violin.  She loved every minute of it.  Knowing that private lessons were an important part of pursuing her dream, Kristine started studying privately with Andrea Bryant at age 12.

Opportunities have been made available to Kristine because of her pursuit.  In March 2010, she took second prize in the Beatrice Hermann Young Artist Recital Competition, held annually by Tacoma Philharmonic.  In November 2010, she won the PYO concerto competition where she soloed with the Youth Orchestra in their final concert.  She has been chosen for three seasons to be part of the PYO chamber music program, and is Concertmaster for the PYO Youth Orchestra for the 11/12 season.  Besides playing in the PYO, she also plays in the Tacoma Community College Orchestra, and performed in the 2012 Gig Harbor pit orchestra.

What Kristine’s teacher has to say about her:
Andrea Bryant:  “I have been Kristine’s violin teacher for approximately four years and find her to be a student of the highest caliber.  Kristine is a fine violinist who plays her instrument with great facility, musicality and grace.  She has a wonderful sense of pitch and rhythm and strives to become even more exact in her technique through her dedication to scales, etudes, and practice time.  Kristine desires to excel on the violin, working diligently to be her best.  In each piece, Kristine has a keen sense of musicality and has the ability to express and convey her thoughts, ideas and musical interpretation.  What sets Kristine apart from her peers is her love for the violin that is evident to all who observe, both in practice and performance.”

Summer Camps and Applications:
Musically speaking, summer is an important time to progress your talent, so Kristine has attended intense music summer camp programs since 2009.  These camps include, Evergreen Music Festival, Icicle Creek Music Festival, PCC Music Academy.  In this music progression, Kristine decided to apply to a few nationally and internationally acclaimed summer music camps for 2012.  We are very excited that she was accepted to two of these six week music programs:  Interlochen Music Arts Camp, and Brevard Music Center 2012 Festival (BMC).

The Request:
To This point, the summer camps have been reasonably affordable.  But in applying to some of the more renown camps, tuition becomes more of an issue, Interlochen - $7,585; Brevard - $5,400.  Scholarship requests were submitted, and generous offers were given by both.  Kristine is hoping to attend Interlochen this summer, but the family is still responsible for more than $4,000, including a plane ticket.

The $1,000 deposit is due on April 12th , and the balance is due prior to camp on June 23, 2012.

We are asking for your help.  This letter is being sent to you because of your friendship and connection with Kristine and/or her family.  If you could see your way to assist financially to enable Kristine to be a part of this amazing opportunity, your gift of any size would be greatly appreciated
